Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The fresh citrus and grassy aromas of the Semillon perfectly compliment the rich peach and rock melon flavours of the Chardonnay. The outcome is exceptionally synergistic, with the flavour of both the Semillon and Chardonnay intensified, but not at the expense of each other. The overall flavours are of stone fruit with a strong dressing of lemon juice on the long finish.
Vineyard Notes
In 1985 Bob and Maryanne McLeish planted out 1.75ha of Semillon named Block 2 and Block 4. The 1.77ha of estate Chardonnay was also established in the same year. The vineyards are hand harvested, sorted and then allocated based on quality. All fruit was hand harvested with the Chardonnay on the 15th of January followed by the Block 2 and Block 4 Semillon on the 19th of January. These ideal conditions provided excellent ripeness and primary fruit characters for both varietals.
Production Notes
The Semillon grapes have been whole bunch pressed to minimize phenolics, put into stainless-steel tank to begin fermentation and finished with 3 weeks of yeast lees prior to bottling. The Chardonnay grapes have been basket pressed then put to stainless steel tank to begin the first fermentation. The juice was then transferred to new and old French oak Barriques where it was left to mature, build complexity and texture before being bottled on the 8th of July 2024.
Food Pairing Notes
