Tasting Notes
This wine displays great depth of flavour, with ripe, red cherry and silky tannins. The wine seamlessly provides a balance of vibrant Merlot primary fruit qualities complimented by the spicy complexity of the oak.
Vineyard Notes
Our vineyard was established in 1985 with the vines being hand harvested every year. The vines undergo fruit thinning prior to vintage which ensures lower yields but high quality fruit. The vineyard soil on the DeBeyers Road property is ideal for Merlot with a mixture of sandy loam and red volcanic clay.
Production Notes
The 2021 growing season was one that challenged even the most experienced and well equipped vignerons. Those that had diligent vineyard management and made the most of it produced small crops of very clean fruit with wonderful flavour and intensity.
After the initial harvesting, sorting and fermentation, the merlot is matured for 10 months in a blend of new and mature French oak barriques.
