Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Intense lime and lemon citrus notes take centre stage, with subtle floral notes. The palate is perfectly balanced with the acidity providing precision and purity. This is a wine with great drive and extraordinary finesse and is built to cellar as a benchmark example of Hunter Valley Semillon.
A classic Hunter Semillon that can be paired with a variety of delicate seafood dishes or enjoyed on its own. The palate is intense yet elegant and crisp, with great line and length.
Vineyard Notes
In 1985 Bob and Maryanne McLeish planted out 1.75ha of Semillon named Block 2 and Block 4. The vineyard is situated on a north facing slope, with predominantly red clay soil and a few millimetres of sandy loam top soils. The vines are planted in a vertical shoot position to allow ample sunlight into the canopy. The fruit is hand harvested then sorted, and the best Semillon fruit is allocated to produce this white wine.
All fruit was hand harvested on the 8th of February 2023. After a mild start to the season the optimal conditions prevailed with long warmer days towards the end of January. These ideal conditions provided excellent ripeness and primary fruit characters for our estate Semillon.
Production Notes
Hand picked from the old vines of block 2 and block 4 at sunrise to ensure the fruit is picked at the coolest part of the day. Whole- bunch pressed to minimize phenolics and then put to stainless-steel tank to begin fermentation. The juice is fermented to 3g/l residual sugar, then the wine in vat is left on lees for 3 weeks to build texture and complexity into the finished wine. This wine sees no oak or maturation.
Winemaker Notes
Bottled early to retain freshness and vitality of the primary fruit
