Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The Victoria Chardonnay 2025 exhibits a bright lemon colour and offers perfumed notes of fresh lemon peel, nectarine, white peach, and vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied, showcasing a balance of ripe stone fruits and bright citrus, with flavors of white peach, nectarine, and kaffir lime. The finish is fine-grained brioche, cream, and spiced oak complexity. The 2025 vintage maintains these characteristics, reflecting the vibrancy and purity of the variety in the Hunter Valley.
Vineyard Notes
McLeish Estate vineyards are in Australia’s oldest wine growing region; the Hunter Valley, planted in 1985. Our Chardonnay is hand harvested from vines grown in friable red duplex loam soil– Fruit thinning was carried out on the single vineyard to consistently producing the purest and brightest signatures of Hunter Chardonnay.
Production Notes
The 2025 vintage benefited from a favorable growing season. The harvest commenced on January 16, following a dry December and early January. Torrential rain just before the first pick refreshed the vines, leading to a healthy crop. The season's conditions contributed to the estate's best crop in the last nine years, with lush canopies and pristine fruit.
Winemaker Notes
The estate vineyard was planted in 1985 on rich red clay loam soil, the fruit was handpicked and the juice was transferred directly to a selection of French oak barriques for 10 months maturation, the assemblage was from a selection of new and old barrels, with some partial natural malolactic fermentation. Creating an elegant balance of fruit, vibrant acidity, creamy texture and brioche oak.
Food Pairing Notes
The McLeish Estate Chardonnay's bright acidity and stone fruit flavours make it a versatile pairing for various dishes. It complements seafood such as grilled prawns or lobster, poultry dishes like roast chicken, and creamy pasta dishes. The wine's oak complexity also pairs well with dishes featuring rich cream sauces or soft cheeses.
Other Notes
McLeish Estate wines are known for their ability to age gracefully. The Victoria Chardonnay 2025 can be enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit characters or cellared for several years to develop further complexity.
